Chronic Fatigue protocol
Wavelength:
Use the Duo Coronet in the “Mono” setting, which is 20 minutes of visible red 670nm pulsed at 40Hz. This is because visible red 670nm on its own has a better effect in people with CF than standard two wavelength sequence (670nm followed by 810nm).
Once the Coronet is in the Mono setting, plug it in and the Coronet automatically starts the session. At the 20-minute, there is a somewhat celebratory shirl of red light, after which the Coronet automatically turns itself off.
Visible red 670nm on its own has a better effect in people with CF than standard two wavelength sequence (670nm followed by 810nm). To change from the two-wavelength Duo to the one-wavelength Mono setting, use the Well Red Companion App.
Duration:
Most people with CF are very sensitive to any changes, so a very slow and careful start is the best option.
When starting a Coronet session, set a stopwatch for the desired duration, and when it is reached, carefully unplug the Coronet where the two black cables connect. Don’t disconnect at the Coronet rim.
Unplugging the Coronet mid-session is not a problem for the device, and it will reset. The next time it is used, it will restart the session at the beginning.
Week 1: two minutes only, in the morning with or soon after breakfast.
Week 2: increase to four minutes daily at the same time of day.
Week 3: increase to six minutes daily etc.
Continue to increase by 2 minutes each week.
Some people find that a short duration is both comfortable and helpful, while others prefer a longer duration. It is important that people with CF find the duration that seems the most helpful, and to use their own criteria to determine this. Each person has a different response to transcranial red light, and when the burden that CF imposes is added in, the acceptable duration can vary widely between individuals.
Frequency:
Once the morning regime has been settled, continue this for at least four weeks.
After this time, consider starting the same two-minute per week routine in the evening, using the Coronet during or soon after the evening meal. Ideally, twice daily is the best approach, given the model of photobiomodulation providing a mitochondrial battery ‘recharge’. However, with CF, comfort is the priority.
Meals and sleep:
The Coronet is best used with or straight after a meal, as there is evidence that the mitochondria respond better with increased glucose in the bloodstream.
The second session, should it be part of the daily routine, should be two to three hours before the usual bedtime.
About the Well Red Coronet:
The Coronet is designed to cover the whole head with LEDs of specific wavelengths shown to penetrate into the outer part of the brain and improve the function of brain cells. The use of 40Hz pulsed light has an additional useful effect. The use of transcranial red LED light is well-tolerated and has not been associated with adverse effects.
