Coronet research update
Way back in 2019, Dr Ann Liebert undertook a small study in Adelaide, looking at the effects of red and near infrared light on people with Parkinson’s disease. Participants were divided into two groups.
Those in Group A started the 12-week light treatment straight away. Participants in Group B had to wait 12 weeks, and then they started the same 12 week treatment program.
Before the study started, all participants were tested in a range of areas looking at motor (movement) signs and non-motor symptoms. Straight after the 12-week intervention, there were measurable improvements in each participant, especially in sleep quality, speech articulation, voice quality, constipation, diarrhoea, pain and in sense of smell.
After the 12 weeks, they were all given a Well Red Duo Coronet and they have continued to use it on a daily basis. The photo above, courtesy of the Hospital Research Foundation Group, is of one of the participants, Margaret, who is a dedicated - and clearly a very happy - Coronet wearer.
Study update in 2024
Here we are five years and a pandemic later, and Dr Liebert has provided an update. She reviewed study participants who have been using the Duo Coronet on a daily basis all this time, and after reassessing everyone, she has some seriously good news.
Dr Liebert found that all participants have, compared with how they were before the study started, a faster gait, with a longer stride and more secure balance.
All are stronger and smarter, and they sleep better.
For most, there had been an improvement in quality of life and some had regained their sense of smell. There are even useful microbiome changes as well.
What do these results tell us?
Five years is a long time in the life of someone diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The usual progression is relentlessly downwards, yet these participants, using their Duo Coronet each day, have improved and maintained those improvements.
This is a very good indication of the high degree of neuroprotection that the Duo Coronet’s two key wavelengths in sequence provide to the brain. It strongly supports the evidence that daily Coronet use slows disease progression.
